May I Begin Yoga 2015 {Yoga Challenge}

image

A new yoga challenge starts May 1st! It also marks my one year anniversary of daily yoga practice! I’ve practiced yoga for years, but not consistently until last May. I’m truly amazed at the progress over the past year, and it all started with a one month yoga challenge. I decided for one month to do yoga every single day, even if it was just a quick 20 minute routine, and it turned into a whole year.

This month’s yoga challenge is all about getting started with yoga, so if you’ve ever been curious or wanted to give yoga a try, I can’t urge you enough to give this challenge a shot.

These daily yoga poses are meant to be done after a practice. You can find tons of free videos on Youtube, and Kino MacGregor, one of the challenge hosts has a bunch of videos for all different levels. One of my favorites is this 30 minute Ashtanga video. (It’s not very difficult, but it does move a little fast if you’re not familiar with yoga.) Here is a great introduction to sun salutations.

If you’re following along with the challenge on Instagram, take a video or picture of the day’s pose and tag #mayibeginyoga2015, and @beachyogagirl and @kinoyoga. They’re going to be giving away prizes to people who participate daily.

Leave a comment below or on Instagram if you’re going to be doing the challenge and leave your Instagram username so I can follow you!

More about the challenge from Kino and Kerri:
It really doesn’t matter what you wear to practice yoga. There is no uniform required. Just get on your mat. There is no right size, shape, age, gender or nationality to practice yoga. All that matters is that you get on your mat, breathe and do the practice. Yoga is a journey and there is no destination. This months challenge is for those who are ready to start a yoga practice. You don’t need to be strong or flexible to start off, all you need is an open heart and a willingness to try. We designed this month’s challenge to be the perfect introduction to yoga, but we want ALL levels to join and share their daily practice.

HOW TO ENTER:
1. Repost this challenge and tag a friend who you want to do it with you.
2. Starting May 1, share a photo of the challenge pose for that day after you practice.
3. Follow & tag @beachyogagirl and @kinoyoga and#mayibeginyoga2015 in your posts!
4. Have fun! Join the yoga community here on Instagram by commenting and liking other people’s photos who are participating in the challenge. *make sure your account is public so all can see!
5. Be inspired!

We will be giving away things that you need to support your yoga practice & lifestyle that we will announce in a few days. *winners will be chosen from those who complete the entire challenge at the end of the month.

My Raw Vegan Pilgrimage to Pure Food and Wine

I’ve been a fan of One Lucky Duck and Pure Food and Wine for years, ever since I discovered raw food-ism. There is a high-end, gourmet feel to their brand, and I think it’s well deserved. I’ve ordered from the site and visited the takeout bar a bunch of times, but I finally made it to PF&W this past weekend.

I always had an excuse for not going, it was too expensive or I didn’t plan well enough to make a reservation in time, but after their brief hiatus earlier this year, I made it a point to get there ASAP.

It was a bit chilly when I got there, but I asked if I could sit in the garden. The hostess was super nice and said of course, and gave me a choice of seats. It was just after 2pm and there were a few tables of people, but it was very quiet and peaceful.

The garden area was beautiful. The plants and trees were a nice little oasis in the city and I can only imagine how gorgeous it must be at night with the lighting they have.

I was glad it wasn’t crowded because I had the opportunity to take pictures without disturbing anyone and really got to enjoy the atmosphere. The wait staff were really helpful and attentive. Right away my server asked if I had any questions about the food.  I asked for tea mid-meal and they brought me a menu and tea within minutes. I also added some to-go items which my server helped pick.

I ordered the Spicy Sesame Salad (shredded cabbage, beets, jicama, daikon, cashew, sesame crunch, wasabi aioli), Mint Sundae
(chocolate, fresh mint, and mint chip ice creams, mint chocolate cookies, chocolate sauce, vanilla cream), a pot of Indian White tea, and a Mallomar (chocolate coated pecan cookie with vanilla cream) and Moon Pie (chocolate brownie vanilla cream sandwich) to go.

Honestly, I came for the mint sundae. Pictures don’t do it justice. I almost didn’t order it because I read a yelp review that said it wasn’t that great, but I’m glad I didn’t listen. It was amazing.

The spicy sesame salad was also really good. I got a salad because I was pretty hungry and I knew how filling the salads were. I was afraid if I got one of the smaller entrees I’d still be hungry, but now I’m kind of regretting not trying something more fun. I did like the Mediterranean Salad (arugula, kale, kalamata olives, tomatoes, pumpkin seed macadamia parmesan, balsamic vinaigrette) that I got another time at the take out bar a little bit better than the Spicy Sesame because of the kalamata olives and the parmesan, but both were huge and really filling.

I ordered a Mallomar to go because they are incredible, but I should’ve just eaten it while I was there because it was crushed by the time I got on the train. I still ate every single drop. To be fair, the server recommended the Chocolate Caramel Bar (chocolate dipped pecan caramel bar) because it would hold up better, bit I’m a sucker for the Mallomar. The Moon Pie held up perfectly. I got it for my mom and she raved about it. They look pretty small, but they’re really rich and it is the perfect amount.

Easy Yoga Mat Cleaner {diy}

Yoga Mat Cleaner

You will need:

  • Spray bottle – I used a 12oz bottle from Target. It was about $1 in the travel size beauty products section.
  • Distilled or filtered water
  • Witch Hazel
  • Essential oils

Yoga Spray Ingredients
What to do

  • Fill your bottle 3/4 full with the water. I used about 9oz for a 12oz bottle.
  • Add in a few drops of your essential oils. I love bergamot mixed with an earthy scent like rosemary, sage, or cloves. Tea tree oil has great antibacterial properties.
  • Fill your bottle the rest of the way with witch hazel.

Essential Oils
Lightly mist your mat, and wipe with a cloth.
