A New Year of Workouts

New Years EveI started 2015 off very casually, in yoga pants, sitting by the fire, drinking a mimosa-type drink with Buddha ice cubes, jotting down some notes in my new planner, and just talking with my husband. It was nice and relaxing, and we just barely made it to midnight.

I’ve pinned a couple of new easy at home workouts, and I’m doing the 100 push-ups challenge again. Last time I quit at the end when my max was 80 something because it killed my wrists. I’m using the app to track and it started me on day 1 of week 3. I think it’ll either move too fast or it’ll be good and won’t bother my wrists since it’s only 3 weeks.

I’m also going to try to do pull ups consistently. So far I’ve done them every day of January. 1 on the 1st, 2 on the 2nd, 3 on the 3rd, etc. I think I might work up to 5 then start at 1 again on the 6th.

This month’s yoga challenges are about strength and back bends, which is a nice combination. I’ve also been practicing handstands a lot lately (I’m still working towards my goal of bakasana to handstand) and I’ve been doing these handstand push-ups where you get into a handstand with your feet on the wall and bend at the elbows and then straighten.Scorpion Handstand

Aside from the home workouts I found online, I’ve compiled a good number of Jillian Michael’s and Bob Harper DVDs, and a few Ballet Beautiful ones. I always find them at the library first to see if they’re something I’ll actually do. The p90x3 yoga and Dynamix are also great workouts I consistently come back to.  Here is a 30 minute intro to Ashtanga yoga video from youtube that I’ve been doing. Usually the thing I dislike the most about yoga/exercise videos in general is how slow they go explaining stuff, this routine is pretty basic, but moves quickly so you don’t have a chance to get bored.

I’m not sure how interesting it would be to document my workouts here, but for now I’m going to try it weekly as a way to keep me on track.

Gifts We Gave and Received

Gifts we gave…

A Dyson for my mom. I told her we were going to give her ours since our house has a Central Vac system, and she loves our Dyson, but since the Central Vac doesn’t cover the entire house, we wanted to keep our Dyson and I bought her the exact same model. She was pretty upset because I told her we weren’t doing presents this year, and surprised her with this. To be fair, I bought it in like September when I found one on sale.

Vanilla cream filled Vaders…

and chocolate TARDIS and Daleks for my dad.

And a book signed by the photographer (for dad).

I made a TARDIS t-shirt.

$100 in different bills hidden inside balloons (also some had notes).

Doctor Who Yahtzee for my husband…who also bought the same thing for me (so his coworker got the extra).

Toilet and bathroom cleaner for my husband…this was a gift of “no complaining” because the smell of Scrubbing Bubbles gives me a headache, and I always complain when he cleans the bathrooms. He also got beer, a plain black hat (he’d been wanting), and an air compressor with all the attachment nozzles.

We were going to do snow globes as gifts for the family, but the 6 year old wasn’t really into it and I noticed I was doing them all (and poorly), so we scrapped it for trinket boxes.

We gave all the women in the family painted boxes like these…they were $1 at Michael’s so you can’t beat that.

We got…

We bought ourselves two new comforters (after searching for the past 2 years) for $20 a piece.  We ordered them, and then each unwrapped one from it’s shipping packaging on Christmas morning. We also got a super comfy throw.

I got a few stationary packs.

And some new shampoo.

Doctor Who Monopoly and a TARDIS tea strainer!

(I won the first game =P)

Mom got me The Vegan Table…which she also gave me two years ago. So I exchanged it for Chloe’s Kitchen and have been loving it. I’m always hesitant to buy cookbooks because there are so many free recipes online, but I’ve already made a few things from it and they have been great.

Did you give or get any great gifts this year?

Christmas Food

This year since we were going around to a million different houses for Christmas day, we had a nice Christmas Eve dinner at the house.

We had our annual Christmas veggie tree.

And Cheddar Bay Biscuits.

And a baked ziti.

This year we had gingerbread cookies. This recipe came out awesome (also the best vegan cutout cookie recipe I’ve ever tried.

I couldn’t find my rolling pin, so I used my One Lucky Duck stainless steel water bottle and I swear it worked even better because it wasn’t super long and awkward.

These puppies were left out for me…I mean Santa.

We also made Christmas candy pretzel sticks.

Also left out for…”Santa”

I had a ton of people order these (and I gave some as a gift)…

What did you eat for Christmas?
