This weekend, the weather was perfect, so we spent a lot of time outside.
Friday, I found a little bit of purple peaking out from underneath the leaves.
And I made chocolate chip protein cookies. (Recipe coming this week.)
We had portobello burgers for dinner. I marinated the portobellos in balsamic and garlic, and used a garlic spread on the burgers. They were delicious.
Saturday morning I had a mint chocolate chip protein smoothie. The beautiful color comes from an avocado.
After breakfast, I was searching online for information about getting our heating system upgraded. I found information from Met Ed about rebates for new appliances and it turns out that our new (in Nov) washing machine qualifies for a $50 rebate. I dug out the receipt and submitted the application and we should have a check in 6-8 weeks. How awesome!
We raked a lot of leaves…
This isn’t even most of them…we still have piles throughout the yard just waiting to get blown away. We didn’t mean to let them pile up until spring…it just sort of snowed before we got to them all. But I will say I enjoy raking a lot more in the spring than in the fall. It feels nice to get outside, instead of like a chore.
I found this neat, futuristic emblem on one of our doors and looked up what it meant to be a Gold Medallion Home. As outdated as our house is today, it was definitely top of the line when the previous owners lived in it. If/when we replace the door that this is on, I want to keep it and frame it or something cool with it.
Since we spent so long working outside, I decided we earned some cheddar bay biscuits. I don’t make these very often because I have no self control and eat all of them at once. Occasionally, I share.
After dinner, I looked around for Fox since I hadn’t seen him in a while and he was sitting outside while we worked. He always stays right by the door the few times he’s gone outside, but we couldn’t find him anywhere. Finally we heard a scratching noise… in the pellet stove. He crawled in a hole in the back/underneath it and got stuck. He must’ve been in there for maybe 2 hours, and it took us a while to figure out how to take it apart enough to get him out. Luckily the side cover plate was easy to take off, but it was scary to see him trapped like that.
Sunday morning I made chocolate black cherry protein shakes.
I also tested the blueberry ginger kombucha I had fermenting, and it was delicious.
Instead of going grocery shopping (which I refuse to do on Sundays anyway), I decided to try out the Giant online shopping. The closest store is about a half an hour away…actually at the Giant that we used to live next to, but I figure the benefits of just driving up and having them put it in my cart will save time shopping. Will report back after tomorrow!
What did you do this weekend? Were you sensible enough to get all your leaves raked before it snowed?
1: What are you wearing? Black yoga leggings from VS, teal cami from Express, and grey long sleeve shirt from Old Navy.
2: Ever been in love? I am definitely in love with my husband.

4: How tall are you? 5 feet.
5: How much do you weigh? Scant 100 lbs.
6: Any tattoos? Alpha and Omega in Greek on the back of my neck that I got in Greece, and a heart on my thigh that I did myself. I have a list of things that I’m jonesing to get.

15: Quality you look for in a partner? Kindness and compassion.

20: Where do you go when you’re sad? When I’m majorly sad, I tend to leave the country. I went to Greece and Japan when I really needed a change of scenery. You have to reevaluate your life and everything you have when you meet other people and see different cultures. It’s a good reminder that there’s way more than just you in the world.

22: How long does it take you to get ready in the morning? 6 minutes. Brush/floss/rinse, put on deodorant, and get dressed.

43: What instruments do you play? Flute, and keyboard (poorly).
44: Favorite piece of jewelry? My engagement ring and wedding band. Also I have a cross necklace my mom gave me that I’ve worn for years. I used to have a miraculous medal and a rosary ring that were given to me by friends that I wore on the same chain as my cross, but I took them off for my wedding and haven’t put them back on. The rosary came from Medjugorje, in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

46: Last song you sang? “I want breakfast” to the tune of “I want candy” while marching towards the kitchen.
47: Favorite pick up line? In junior high, my two best guy friends were all about cheesy pick up lines. Are you a parking ticket because you’ve got fine written all over you. Or, Did it hurt? When? When you fell from Heaven. Whatever you do, don’t call the girl a piece of meat!!
48: Have you ever used it? Not seriously.
49: Last time you hung out with anyone? Besides the people I live with?
50: Who should answer these questions next? Anyone and everyone.
I was in the process of making a holiday gift guide, and had come up with most of the things I wanted to include. No affiliate links, just things that I either think would be a good gift for a female/vegan/techie/whatever. I was Googling how people grab the product images that they use for lists like these, and the consensus pretty much seems to be “I take them from the manufacturer’s website, and it’s okay because I’m promoting their product.” I’m not sure I’m totally cool with that so I started looking at the press/terms on some of the websites I was thinking about featuring. I’m sure every website has a bunch of legal jargon written to cover their butts, but this one stood out to me and seemed weird:
“We also grant you a limited, revocable, and nonexclusive license to create a hyperlink to the home page of the Site for personal, non-commercial use only. A website that links to the Site (i) may link to, but not replicate, any and/or all of our Content; (ii) may not imply that we are endorsing such website or its services or products; (iii) may not misrepresent its relationship with us; (iv) may not contain content that could be construed as distasteful, obscene, offensive controversial or illegal or inappropriate for any ages; (v) may not portray us or our products or services, in a false, misleading, derogatory, or otherwise offensive or objectionable manner, or associate us with undesirable products, services, or opinions; and (vi) may not link to any page of the Site other than the home page. We may, in our sole discretion, request that you remove any link to the Site, and upon receipt of such request, you shall immediately remove such link and cease any linking unless separately and expressly authorized in writing by us to resume linking.”
Obviously I’m breaking the part about replicating content on their site…oh well.
I guess I don’t really have a point, but it rubs me the wrong way to read that you can’t link to any page other than the homepage and that they can ask you to remove a link and that you SHALL do it. It seems like it’s stepping on freedom of speech that you can’t insert a hyperlink to a specific product page. Not like I feel that I need to defend my right to link to a specific shampoo, but what’s the big deal?
I had started my post and linked to two skincare products and a hair styling product, but I guess I won’t recommend and link at all.
(I did have someone contact me from a college once and ask that I remove a link to their student blog about ramen noodles. They cited that my site expressed opinions that they found offensive. I obliged.)
