It’s no secret I’m a huge fan of NYC’s top vegan establishment, The Cinnamon Snail. The Cinnamon Snail started as a food truck, opened a brick and mortar location at Penn Station while still doing events with the truck, and as of today they have opened up another location!
This new location, 70 Pine Street in the Financial District in downtown Manhattan, is part of the City Acres food hall. Also inside City Acres is legendary vegan sushi concept Beyond Sushi, and Juice Brothers, a pressed juice concept from Amsterdam. Non-veg options in the food hall will include Vanessa Dumplings, and Artichoke Pizza, who also both have vegan and vegetarian options.
Like all of their other locations, this new spot will be Kosher Certified, and will be 100% plant based, while still remaining absurdly decadent and creative.
And just in case you think you’ve already had everything the Snail has to offer, this menu will have brand new and exclusive items! A few all- time-favorite items will be available at all locations. Chef Adam Sobel’s signature Korean BBQ Seitan (with house made kimchi, smoked chili grilled seitan, and greens, on a chili butter grilled tortilla), Maple Mustard tempeh sandwiches, and the Cinnamon Snail’s legendary burgers will of course be part of the selection.

Gochujang Glazed Crispy Seitan
With kimchi, pickled red onions, arugula and sriracha mayo on a grilled pretzel bun
Peking Seitan Fries
With tamarind plum glazed seitan, scallions, pickled red onions, wasabi mayo and black sesame gomasio
Monster Style Breakfast Sandwich
Scrambled tofu, smoked coconut “bacon”, marinated kale, hollandaise, and pickled red onions, and “everything bagel” seasoning on grilled homemade challah bread
Almond Challah French Toast
Smoked almonds, maple raspberry sauce, almond and cinnamon bun glaze
Cambodian Crispy Tofu
With tamarind plum reduction, smoked chili roasted peanuts, umeboshi plum marinated cucumbers, baby arugula, and wasabi mayo on a grilled pretzel bun
Of course, The Cinnamon Snail will offer a huge selection of award winning donuts, and other pastries at this location. Flavors change seasonally, and at the whim of the culinary basket case at the helm of the Cinnamon Snail’s multidimensional flavor ship.
And for anyone in Central PA who is dying to grab a bite from the Cinnamon Snail, they can usually be found at the Bethlehem Vegfest (Aug. 26th this year). But make sure you get there early to avoid the lines!

This past weekend was the Vendy Awards on Governer’s Island in NY. I love the Vendy’s. I went for the first time in 2014 when I won VIP tickets, and I’ve been going (VIP style) ever since. The Vendy Awards celebrate, support, and bring awareness to street vendors and their struggles.
I highly recommend attending the Vendy’s, and really suggest getting early bird VIP tickets. Perks of the VIP tickets include, getting in an hour before general admission opens, a swag bag full of goodies, open bar, and shaded seating area. Getting in as early as possible is essential because the lines get LONG.
The first thing I tried was Raindrop Cake. The black cane sugar and blueberry lavender were vegan. I was excited about trying it since it’s described as a ‘raindrop made for your mouth’. It was really interesting – in a good way. It was sweet and melted in your mouth. Both syrups were good, and I liked the black can sugar the best.
Next up was Monk’s Meats and the best word to describe their sliders is “wow”. Their seitan is absolutely incredible. I can’t even put into words how good their food was and I’m more than a little upset that I can’t eat it on a regular basis. The Bulgogi was my favorite since it had a spicy Gochujang mayo that was out of this world, but they were all so delicious. I would give just about anything to get my hands on their seitan recipe.
Next stop was Yeah Dawg, another all vegan vendor that I was super excited about. I got the Viva Dawg and my mom got the Bulldawg. The coconut bacon and chipotle mayo were perfect.We loved them, and my only regret was not going back for seconds to try the other kinds.
The dogs were really, really good. They’re made out of normal ingredients, root veggies, sunflower seeds, gluten free flour, and herbs and spices. These tasted better than any “real” hot dog I’ve ever had.
At this point, I was already started to feel a tiny bit stuffed, and there were still so many vendors to try. Sweetface Snoballs was next to Yeah Dawg and serves up New Orleans style snoballs. Only one of the three flavors they had didn’t have dairy in it, so I went with that one, the Nola Voodoo. It was really rich and sweet. There was a always a huge line through out the day and I can understand why, it was a perfect delicious treat on a beautiful day. For some reason I didn’t snap a photo of my snoball – probably because I was too busy eating it.
The Jerk Shack was right next to the snoballs, so my mom and I each got a plate of their offerings. They offered very generous portions of their authentic Caribbean cuisine and they were both delicious.
There was a mixture of types of trucks that I could eat at, some were 100% vegan, others were in the vegan category that normally serve both vegan and non vegan food, then there were non vegan trucks that specially made some vegan dishes even though it wasn’t their norm.
Los Viojeros had a veggie option, and they were nice enough to make me a special dish that didn’t have the cheese or aioli. The plantains, peppers and onions were a nice combo, and I thought it was really nice of them to make me something separate.
Bamboo Bites was another vendor in the vegan category. They had two sticky rice options, one with mango and the other with tofu in a peanut sauce. They were both really good. I always love mango sticky rice, and the tofu in peanut sauce was really tasty. Again, I kind of failed on the photo front here. Too busy stuffing things in my mouth to get a good photo I guess!

I got a Mediterranean Mule – Figenza Fig Vodka, Ginger Beer, and Lime Juice. I can’t even remember the last time I had vodka or any kind of hard liquor (seriously like 2 or 3 years ago on New Years Eve), but I love figs, so I got one and wow, was it good. I tried the whiskey and learned that I’m not a whiskey person. They also had gin and tonics, but since I don’t like gin, I just got a tonic water.
Another vegetarian vendor that went out of their way to be vegan friendly was Matzahbrei. I loved their sign “All Vegetarian – *Make it vegan (Just ask the guy)”. I asked for a vegan Yannis, and waited with a few other vegans for them to make it fresh. I was a little unsure of the beets, mint, and tahini combo, but it was REALLY good. At this point I was starting to really feel the mass amounts of food I had eaten, but I would’ve gone back and asked for more if I had the stamina. Also major thanks for making a special vegan option!
A sponsor, Casper, had nap pods with their mattresses. I didn’t try it out, but it looked…interesting.
Another sponsor was Uprooted. I got a pretty silk flower crown. From now on, I will only be referred to as Sunflower Moon Goddess whenever I wear it! When I first walked through, I missed Mysttik Masaala, which was was very unfortunate because their food was incredible. I know I’ve pretty much said that about everyone, but all of these guys are the best of the best. I tried the red bean, potatoes, and spinach dishes. At this point I was taking a couple bites, walking around, taking a few more bites…because I was so full. But it was SO good. And spicy. And I could really go for more right now.

We had skipped over Tuson Sate originally because we wanted to try all the vegan stuff first and got pretty full pretty fast. Towards the end of the day I noticed they had a tempeh option and gave it a try. They asked if I wanted it vegan (seriously blows my mind when someone asks without me saying it first) and they had separate tempeh that they served up. It was good and some of the best tempeh I’ve had.
A few hours in, they were all out of water … and soda … and seltzer, so I got a beer.
There was a huge crowd for the awards ceremony. There were two guest vegan judges, Adam Sobel of the Cinnamon Snail and Chloe Coscarelli – basically my two celebrity vegan idols. I really wanted to get photos with them, but I didn’t see them walking around.
Monk’s Meats won the People’s Choice award, and Mysttik Masaala won Judge’s choice in the vegan category. In past years, there was usually one stray vegan vendor in each category, so it was easy to know who to vote for, but this year having a devoted category it was so hard! Each of them were incredible and it was great having different kinds of foods.
After stuffing my face as much as possible, I walked around the island a little bit (but apparently not far enough because somehow I missed The Hills). I LOVE Governer’s Island. I love the architecture of the historic buildings, I love the views of Manhattan, I love all of the art exhibits.
On the day of the Vendy’s, it was also World War I Doughboy Day. I was lucky enough to catch the last performance of ‘Eugene Bullard, America’s first black fighter pilot’ portrayed by actor Chadd Gray. It was informative and captivating. The actor did such a wonderful job of really honoring Bullard and bringing his legend to life.
Overall, it was a beautiful day and a beautiful event. Everything was organized really well (except for running out of water), and I cannot wait for next year. Please have a vegan category always!!
My mom and I are huge Chloe Coscarelli fans. Her recipes are some of my favorites because they use simple, normal ingredients, and always come out delicious. When I learned Chloe was opening a restaurant, I immediately told my mom and we vowed to go when it opened. Well, they are opened two weeks ago, and we made the trip to NYC to check it out.
We spent a ridiculous amount of time looking at the menu (and pictures on Instagram) trying to decide what to order when we got there. Despite how amazing the burgers looked, I had my heart set on the Casaer Salad. I haven’t had one in years and it just sounded too good not to get. I decided to get a side of fries and an order mac n cheese too. I almost ordered the pesto meatball sub, but I’m glad I didn’t because after the huge salad, I could barely finish the fries and didn’t even touch the mac and cheese until later. The salad was humongous and delicious, and the shiitake bacon was the best not-bacon I’ve ever had. It was crispy, salty, fatty, and sweet. The fries were very much like other fast food fries, and you would never know they were air baked instead of fried. I generally don’t care for ketchup, and my mom doesn’t like beets, but we both loved the beet ketchup and special sauce that came with the fries. I ate the mac n cheese when I got home, my mom also got an order, and we agreed it was the best mac and cheese we’ve ever had. I realized when I got home that I had made her recipe for mac and cheese with sweet potato sauce before, but I don’t remember it being that good.
My mom got the Whiskey BBQ burger, and also loved it. Every single thing on the menu sounded so good, I wish they had a sampler with tiny portions of everything. We also ordered peanut butter banana smoothies (YUM) and desserts to go.
The cupcakes didn’t quite make it home in one piece but they still tasted wonderful. You can see what the Raspberry Tiramisu cupcake looked like when I ordered it below. I had to order it since it was one of her winning Cupcake Wars cupcakes! The Chlotess cupcake had the perfect chocolate ganache and little vanilla loops. The chocolate chip cookie was the most perfect cookie, it was chewy with a little bit of crunch…I’m getting hungry just thinking about it.
The prices were very reasonable…especially for New York. My salad was $9.95 and was huge. My mom’s burger was $10.95 and also filling. The sides we got, sweet potato and regular fries, and mac and cheese, were $3.95 and $4.95. The 16 oz smoothies were $8.50, the cupcakes were $3.50 and the cookie was $2.50. Our bill was higher than we’d normally spend at lunch, but that’s only because we went a little crazy and got extra food to go.
The restaurant was packed when we got there, which was peak lunch time, at a little after 1pm. I took more pictures of the inside but it was mostly the tops of people heads or their backs. The decor was very modern and I would’ve loved to really look around and see the other merchandise she was selling, but I didn’t want to waste time or be in anyone’s way. We had to stand and wait a little bit for a seat, which was okay, and it was slowing down a little bit by the time we were leaving. The lines/people standing around waiting was a little confusing. I ended up standing in line 3 times (more about that in a second) once behind someone who was waiting to get their food, not order it, and the second time I decided to ask the person in front of me just to be safe and he responded like “of course I’m in line, why else would I be standing here.”
I ended up in line the second time because after we sat down, I was looking at my receipt and realized the woman at the register missed a bunch of our food. I went back and reordered what was missed, so no big deal.
When we were ordered, my mom asked me if Chloe would be working there and I said I wasn’t sure. When we were eating she was walking around asking people how their meal was and was giving smoothie samples out. She was also cleaning tables, and asked my mom if she could take our trash when I was ordering desserts.
I can only image how hard it is to run a restaurant, especially in NYC. And while I have no clue how much of the business responsibility is on her, I saw first hand how hard she was working. Chloe has been one of my favorite “celebrity” vegans for a while and I love her even more now. She is incredibly inspiring and is showing people vegan food can be reasonably priced, filing, and delicious.
If you’re in the tri-state area, get to By Chloe, and come hungry. If you can’t get to NYC to eat at there in person I highly recommend her cookbooks. They are all filled with easy, recipes that everyone will love.
